Journey To Freedom with The Alcohol Coach By Michaela
The journey to gaining full and happy control over alcohol is a journey of unlearning and of retraining the mind.
Since 2019, I have worked with thousands of intelligent, capable women over 40 helping them to do just that. Together we have seen, navigated and learned from all the pitfalls that there are in the journey. We have worked through fear, self sabotage, shame and guilt.
We have worked through successes, wobbles, feelings of failure, and euphoric freedom. We have navigated breaks from alcohol, never-going-back-again’s, weddings, holidays, lunches and work do’s of every imaginable shape and size.
If you are looking for AA, blame, shame, a lifetime of recovery, deprivation, counting days and needing meetings to just maintain a holding position, then you are most definitely in the wrong place. This is not that.

Wherever you are at this point is perfectly OK. We meet you on this journey, exactly where you are right now.
To cater for where you are starting from, and to help you move forward with ease, the services at The Alcohol Coach are now set into different stages of the journey to freedom and thriving.
Each stage represents a stage in my own personal journey with alcohol.
I found that when I arrived at one point, there was another point ahead. There was still work to be done, and struggles still being had. Each of the programs in our suite of services meets the direct needs that I had myself in my life journey to living a free, awakened life without alcohol.
I used my science, psychology and presence to research across the globe for the very best, integrated and practical solutions. I then went on to work with thousands of women who needed the same support. In the last two years, I have personally spoken to over 700 women on Discovery calls, learning and growing alongside them as they explained where they were in their lives, and opened up to me about their hopes and their fears, and what they needed. The conversation revealed that there were several key stages that women went through on their alcohol and sober life journey.
Where are you starting your alcohol-free journey?
The stages that women experience in dealing with an alcohol problem typically manifest around the thought patterns below. Which of these feels real to you at the moment, on your own journey?
#1 Do I have a problem? Am I an alcoholic? Do I need to do anything?
This is the very beginning of realisation that something isn’t quite right. You may be in a mental cycle with drinking that goes – it’s not so bad – I can’t do this anymore… Rinse and repeat! We all start there. It’s like an abusive or negative marriage. It’s not always easy to see that you’re better off out of it! If you are unsure, dip your toe in the water with the new program, CHALLENGE.
#2 I have a problem relationship with alcohol …
- but I’m not sure I want to not drink forever. Forever terrifies me! Or…
- and I want it solved, permanently, and completely.
Both of these states are ready for change, and that’s all that needs to de decided. If you can say, ‘I am ready to learn HOW to deal with this problem.’ Then you are ready for DISCOVER.
#3 I thought I had solved my alcohol problem…
- but it’s back, and I’m drinking again or…
- I think I’m free, but I’m scared that the problem will come back. I don’t want alcohol, but I keep thinking about it. I find myself wanting alcohol for no reason, even though I stopped. It’s hard to stay not drinking, I’m using all my willpower.
Again, life isn’t always on or off, and a relationship with alcohol can need to go through a period of stabilisation before you feel that you can sustain sobriety with confidence. And this is OK. This doesn’t need to last a long time – not at all. With the correct teaching and guidance this can be a smooth and joyful transition. We’re not talking lifelong recovery here, we are talking about tools, techniques, and practical understanding to help you understand and therefore avoid the pitfalls and early fears of freedom. The stabilisation program is SUSTAIN.
#4 I don’t want alcohol, but I have no resilience emotionally and life still feels hard.
Maybe you’re saying things like, ‘People and situations upset me, and I can feel triggered. I feel I’ve lost myself along the way, and I want my old self back. I get caught up in negative thinking and I often feel stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, or depressed. I don’t set boundaries for myself. My thoughts worry and upset me’. If this is where you are, then the program to build resilience and mental happiness in life, and in a life where you don’t need alcohol is THRIVE.
What program support is best for you to get control of alcohol and life?
Let’s start at the beginning, and you can slot in right where you are, here and now.
I spent 10 years in what I now recognise, was denial. If you are unsure whether you have a problem with alcohol or not, then the course relevant for this is CHALLENGE. This is a short, inexpensive option that invites you to take a break using willpower and some supportive resources. If you glide through the break happily without effort, then maybe you are fine. But if you find it any effort at all, or you struggle through it only to fall gasping into a glass of chilled wine on the final day, then you’ll want a change-based solution that gives you control back.
I Realised I had a Problem with Alcohol
Once I realised that I had a problem, it was evident that much of the support available wasn’t relevant to me as a middle-age intelligent woman. I tried to hypnotise myself out of my problem, chastise myself, Google myself out of the problem, GP, AA and counsel myself out of it, but nothing offered the practical, science-based and experiential learning that I now know is essential, and that I now offer you.
The diagram below shows the journey from the point that you will decide you want change your relationship with alcohol, to you living in the fullest and authentic joy.
The Science of Transformational Freedom
Removing Fear and Doubt
Removing fear and doubt is the very first thing that is addressed in DISCOVER, and it is an element of every program that I run. Fear and doubt are the biggest barriers to all human change. They are featured at the start of the journey because we know and respect that the fear and self-doubt feel very real, and that support is needed to reposition your abilities, and place power back where it rightfully lives – with you!
I unraveled myself from the conditioning that led to me having such a strong relationship with alcohol. Through belief change, memory re-evaluation and language reframe techniques, I shattered the bonds to alcohol, and got control back. I was free. The program for this is DISCOVER.
DISCOVER is the fast-track program to break free from alcohol and get control back. Once you are free, you can decide what happens next – stay free, or not – it is your life, and with insight, your wisdom will guide you from there. What you decide at the deepest level is what you manifest in life. If you want freedom, expansion and joy, DISCOVER will break you free.
I broke the chains of alcohol
When I broke the chains of alcohol, there was a freedom, almost euphoria, but then the reality of living in a world where everyone drinks hit me, and for a while, triggering situations and people caused me to doubt myself and my control over sobriety. I was standing outside the prison looking back at it, and at times knocking on the door to go back in! I didn’t know that there is often a stabilisation period that accompanies such deep seated belief and conditioning changes.
I now see this in some of my clients. They break free, but can be still attached to the alcohol prison, through fear. This was seen in 1945 in Auschwitz when the freed prisoners walked back in, because there was comfort in the known despite its hell. This human tendency needs to be worked with, otherwise it becomes a different kind of trap, of fear and abstinence. Freedom is freedom, and there is no need to live counting days, fearing starting drinking again. The program for stabilising in sobriety is SUSTAIN.
Once free and stabilised in sobriety, I started to explore the relationship between my inner world and the outer world. Having suffered with anxiety and stress for a lot of my life, I wanted to use my natural human abilities to meet my natural inherent needs. I explored thoughts, emotions, peace, boundaries, authenticity, alignment and more. I studied psychotherapy, NLP, positive psychology, life coaching, and East and West traditions.
Love Life Sober!
After making leaps in transformation myself, I developed my life coaching process to help other women. I took the standard and somewhat superficial wheel of life, and developed a wheel that worked directly with sobriety, and the essence of self-discovery. THRIVE is a four-part process for women who want to live their lives in authentic and joyful alignment.
When the chains of alcohol are truly removed there is a natural expansion and THRIVE is the program to guide that natural expansion.
Beyond THRIVE and The Science of Transformation, the journey continues for those who want to reach the highest joy of being human: rediscovering the joy of who you are, transcending mind, and awakening to the ultimate peace, happiness and lightness of being.
